Series 6 (1992 – 1995)Įxported throughout the world, this series of RX-7 had the highest sales of the FD model. In addition to this, the rotary had no need for a big heavy flywheel since the engine’s cylinders rotated around the crankshaft and there were no reciprocating components that would cause engine vibration. The engine had an unusually high output for such a compact engine and it could hit an impressive 8,000rpm. Mazda continued to use the rotary engine for a few different reasons. A 4-speed automatic version was also available at launch as well. Mazda offered a tight and precise feeling 5-speed manual transmission for those who wanted to feel involved with the car. The first turbo (10 psi) kicked in at around 1,800rpm, while the second (10 psi) kicked into life at 4,000rpm. Initially, the car produced 252hp when it launched in 1993, which was increased to 276hp by the time production ended in Japan in 2002. This engine was the first mass-produced sequential twin-turbocharged system to be exported from Japan. The car featured the impressive 1.3-litre 13B-REW power unit. It was a true return to the sportscar feel of the original and was highly praised by motoring journalists from all over the world. With a curb weight under 1,300kg, a low centre of gravity and increased power, the FD was a car Mazda could be proud of. The smooth lines of the FD were a complete contrast to the boxy shape of the previous RX-7. It looked space-age in 1992, with its low-slung, shrink-wrapped body. Mazda’s new RX-7 was the work of designer Yoichi Sato and is one of the most striking and impressive designs to ever come out of Japan. The RX-7 FD was launched in 1992 and returned to the lightweight design philosophy of the first generation. The FC differed to the first gen SA22C/FB as it was softer and less of a pure sportscar.įollowing the RX-7 FC’s production end, the Japanese manufacturer launched the third and final RX-7. In 1985, Mazda launched the second generation RX-7, the FC. Both of these cars were sold in Japan as Savanna. The RX-7 replaced Mazda’s previous rotary powered car, the RX3. It featured a real-wheel drive layout with the power plant mounted slightly behind the front axle, which Mazda labelled as “front mid-engine”. The History & Specifications of the Mazda RX-7 FDĪs an alternative to larger engined cars, the rotary-powered Mazda RX-7 made its debut in 1978.
We love this app because it not only tracks your cycle, but it gives you personalised exercise and nutrition advice based on the way your hormones change throughout your cycle. If you are using Natural Cycles to avoid getting pregnant, you do need to ensure you measure your temperature on a daily basis. The app shows you the status of each day: green for “it’s OK to have unprotected sex,” and red for “not unless you want a baby!” You can also switch modes in the app, so the data can be used to tell you when you are most likely to be able to conceive, if you are trying for a baby. It may seem overly simplistic, but when you're at home and feeling disconnected from your usual working environment, it's easy to let things slide having a to-do list is a great way of keeping yourself honest. So, start each day by writing out a list of what you have to do – perhaps adding estimates of how long you think each item will take so that you don't overload yourself – and then work through it, crossing each task off as you complete it. Without the structure of studio life it can be hard to focus on what you need to do each day, and if you don't have a clear view of that day's tasks it's all too easy to procrastinate. By planning studying sessions in a way that minimises external distractors, you could improve your concentration and overall performance.A to-do list is the simplest and most effective way of ensuring you get things done (Image credit: Getty Images/Jamie Grill) So while you might think you can study in a busy cafe, or with the TV on, or with your phone keeping you connected to the world, the chances are that you’re not as good at getting down to work as you think. Other options may be to avoid using smartphones and other devices before studying is completed for the day, or to keep such technology in communal areas away from the studying space. One strategy to avoid the negative effects of media multi-tasking is to take short “ technology breaks” during which you access the internet, but then restrict its use for the rest of your study period. Overall, these results suggest that using media when studying should be limited due to the decrease in performance when multi-tasking. Although teenagers and young adults reported strong confidence in their ability to multi-task, their actual performance was almost always worse compared to when they were doing just one task. The tasks involved judging whether spoken statements are correct and counting the shape of visual objects. For instance, one study asked participants to do either one task or two tasks at the same time. Another recent survey found that greater daily Facebook use is associated with an increase in academic distraction.īut while using other media when studying is detrimental to performance, students may not always be aware of this because they tend to overestimate their ability to multi-task. For example, one study found that students who were allowed to send text messages during a lecture had lower comprehension of its contents than those who had their phones switched off. Such types of multi-tasking activities are usually associated with poorer studying performance. In one study, students conducting three hours of homework engaged with an average of 35 distractors such as using their phone, accessing the internet for non-study purposes or listening to music. A and I Kruk/Shutterstock The multi-tasking problemĮven if you find an empty room and take out your headphones, studying today often means dealing with a big potential distraction in the form of smartphones and social media. But, again, recent eye-tracking evidence suggests that listening to music also reduces reading efficiency in a similar way to irrelevant speech.Īvoid technology altogether if you can. A recent survey found that 62% of university students were listening to music while studying or doing homework. Listening to music is another common distraction that many students choose. This distraction occurred because readers were inadvertently trying to listen to the irrelevant speech and process its meaning, even though it has nothing to do with what they are reading. The results showed reading needed more effort because participants more often had to go back to previously read words and re-examine them. However, when measured in the lab, people’s ability to carry out study-related tasks is usually made worse by irrelevant speech in the background.įor example, a recent study recorded participants’ eye movements as they read texts and listened to irrelevant background speech. But they are usually not very good at accurately estimating how distracted they will be by such sounds. When trying to concentrate on a task, people often report that the presence of nearby speech is annoying. Reading is often accompanied by background speech, such as from the television or the conversations of friends or colleagues. Here’s how you can get the most from your studies by considering your environment. The problem is that many people tend to underestimate how much they are distracted by what’s going on around them. Modern life is full of distractions – and some of them can have a negative effect on our ability to concentrate when studying. Make sure that F9 key is not assigned to any actions. This third party application doesn't stay anywhere on screen (and runs as a background daemon).Hence Apple original Bezel icons trivially show up. For example, a full-screened DVD Player shrinks back to a window of normal size because AppleScript takes the focus. When AppleScript runs, it takes away the system focus from the current application. (According to Rammjet, you can use Dock Dodger to avoid this short appearance.)

More than this will usually lead to faster slicing speeds, while less will require you to move more slowly while you work.īut power isn’t the only thing that makes a meat slicer’s motor work well. Without sufficient motor power, a meat slicer will struggle to create thin, even slices.ġ20 Watts is a good, middle-of-the-road level of power. That’s because motor power determines how fast the blade is going to spin, and therefore how smooth your slicing will be. The power of a meat slicer’s motor is the very first thing you should look at when you evaluate one. So allow me to share a few tips from my restaurant days with you, giving you the background info you’ll need to choose the best meat slicer. Without hands-on experience, it’s almost impossible to determine what the best meat slicer for home use is. Because if you’re looking to save money on sliced meats and cheeses, it’s better to play the long game with an appliance that will last for years.īuyer’s Guide: How to Choose the Best Meat Slicer And though that price is quite high for a home use kitchen appliance, in my opinion, it’s worth the investment. Overall, this KWS Electric Meat Slicer easily outperforms any competition at its price point. And it’s easy to take apart for cleaning, too, with no hidden spots to frustrate your scrubbing efforts. Hidden whetstones in the base keep the edge razor-sharp, meaning that you’ll never have to replace the blade or have it professionally sharpened.Īll that power is mounted on a sturdy and durable cast aluminum frame. Combined, these two aspects make this slicer capable of effortlessly cutting deli-thin slices, and even handling raw or frozen meats.īetter yet, that 10-inch blade has a flat edge that runs that self-sharpens every time you run the machine. And its performance far exceeds that of the other two slicers listed above.Īt the heart of the KWS slicer is a 320 Watt motor, powering its extra-large 10-inch blade. It’s the closest you can get to a commercial-grade slicer without breaking the bank. If you’re serious about saving money on slicing your own meats and cheeses at home, investing in the KitchenWare Station Electric Meat Slicer is the way to go. But if you’re looking to get a meat slicer for your home at the best price possible, this is the appliance for you. And sure, that bargain price comes with a tradeoff in performance. Overall, the Chefman Food & Deli Slicer is easily the best slicer available at this price. The problem is how many little nooks and crannies there are, so expect to spend extra time on cleanup with this slicer. Though the food carriage is equipped with a quick-release for easy cleaning, the Chefman could be easier to clean. Whereas most meat slicers will take up twice that much space on your countertop, the Chefman can be left out indefinitely without crowding your kitchen. The compact 9” x 12” footprint for the Chefman definitely puts it in a class of its own. It’ll get the job done, for sure, but don’t expect picture-perfect edges on your sliced meat and cheese. That’s more than enough power to make smooth slices - a feature that’s only hindered by the roughly serrated blade. It’s the only meat slicer under $100 that I can wholeheartedly recommend.įirst of all, the Chefman is incredibly affordable given its powerful 180 Watt motor. But what if you’re looking for a small, simple machine to make your slicing life easier? Turn towards the Chefman Deli & Food Slicer. Wrap all of those great features up in a 1-year warranty that covers parts and labor, and you have what I consider the best overall meat slicer for at-home use.īuying any home meat slicer is going to eat into your kitchen budget. And when you take them all off for a thorough cleaning, the unidirectional serrated blade is fully exposed for easy cleaning, too. The blade, food carriage, food pusher, and “thickness control” plate are all removable. The entire machine is easy to disassemble and clean, too. This ensures that meat falls effortlessly away from the 7-inch stainless steel blade while you’re slicing. While most home-use meat slicers have an upright design, the Chef’sChoice goes for the more professional-grade tilted carriage. And because the motor has exceptionally high torque, it has excellent cutting power. But it’s small for a very good reason: It helps keep the size of this machine smaller and better for kitchen countertops. On paper, the Chef’sChoice’s 120 Watt motor may not look that impressive. The combination of value and performance makes it one of the best meat slicers for home use, bar none. Even though it’s offered at the price of a home-use model, the Chef’sChoice Electric Meat Slicer has a design that’s closer to commercial grade.
